The 2021 One Act Play Festival was a successful evening of student directed productions. "The Trojan Women" was presented by the REP class and directed by Mr. Cook. "Chicks" was directed by Jenna Afifi. "Asylum" was directed by Ashelyn Carden. "Future, Here" was directed by Hannah Dellert. "Little Women" was directed by Taylor Rigsbee, "Have You Heard?" was directed Kelsey Grace. "Mashed Potatoes" was written and directed by Ephram Oliver.
The Fall musical was Little Shop of Horrors presented on October 29-30, 2021. The Musical Theatre class also presented a Fall cabaret for the school in late September and two Spring Cabarets in April.
The REP course explored a Shadow theatre unit in January. Below are the three stories they presented with their shadow work; Icarus, Rumpelstiltskin, and Cinderella.
Twenty students participated in the Annual English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition. Abbey D'aguillo and Sahdiyah Simpson represented SAA on the local level and took home first and third places respectively. Abbey's performance will be submitted for entry into the national competition in May.
The department's winter play, Steel Magnolias, was presented at Tybee Post Theatre on February 25 and 26.
The Department's Spring Play, Silent Sky, was presented at SAA on March 11, 12, and 13.
Thespian Troupe 5952 held the annual Thespian Induction & Award Ceremony on May 3 with awards, thespian inductions, naming of new officers, and delicious food catered by the SAA Theatre Guild.
The Rep Players presented A Midsummer Night's Dream 80's Dance Extravaganza on May 6 and 7 in the Secret Garden Courtyard.
The REP Players presented Machinal on December 6 and 7 in the Black Box Theatre.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was presented at Asbury Memorial Church on January 20 and 21 by the Musical Theatre class.
SAA Theatre competed in the Savannah Chapter of The English Speaking Union's Annual Shakespeare Competition and took home first and third prizes for our region. Leah Horan won first place and will travel to NYC to compete on the national stage. Isa Lilja-Vazquez won third prize. Both students received cash prizes.
The SAA Musical Theatre Class presented their annual spring cabaret. This year the theme was 90's musical theatre featuring songs from Miss Saigon, The Lion King, Mama Mia, Songs for a New World, and Rent. The cabaret was presented at The Historic Savannah Theatre on March 24, 2023.
